Coin Silver Teaspoon Marked J.BELL and with Pseudo-Hallmarks
$19.50
Offered is a nice American coin silver teaspoon marked J.BELL in a rectangular punch; this spoon is also marked with NY-style manufacturer's marks. I haven't researched this mark, but assume J. Bell was a retailer, most likely in the NE part of the country, but perhaps elsewhere. By style, this spoon should date to the 1840s or 1850s. It has legible marks and a good period engraved script monogram that appears to be "NCH". This spoon measures about 5 13/16 inches in length and weighs about 15 grams. Condition is fairly good overall, with modest tip wear and some small bumps to the bowl, but no splits or repairs. All in all a nice example of this mark, with an especially well-done monogram!
