NY Coin Silver Teaspoon by James Sumerau - Rare Mark

Offered is a nice American coin silver teaspoon with a rare maker's mark or retailer's mark - that of James Sumerau, who worked as a jeweler in in New York City in the late 1830s and early 1840s. This piece is engraved with a period script monogram and is struck with James' mark of SUMERAU in a rectangular punch. This spoon measures about 5 7/8 inches in length and weighs about 17 grams. Condition is fair, with the bowl a bit out of round and some surface wear, but no splits or repairs. All in all a great example of this rare mark!
