Offered is a nice American coin silver cream ladle marked PACKARD in moderately crude letters in a rectangular punch; this maker's mark has been attributed to Jonathan Packard (1789-1854), who worked in Northampton, MA from 1811-14, in Albany, NY from 1814-18, and in Rochester, NY from 1819-54. He met an untimely end in 1854 when he was beaten to death by three drunken men while on his way home.

This ladle measures about six inches in length and weighs about 22 grams. It is engraved with a lovely period script monogram, and has a clear maker's mark. This piece is in very good condition overall, with no notable dents and no splits or repairs. All in all a lovely example of this form and of this man's wares!
