Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
Transitional Coffin-End Spoon by Robert Evans of Boston Ca. 1805-10
SOLD
Offered is a nice early 19th Century Boston coin silver teaspoon by Robert Evans (1768-1812), working circa 1788-1810 at shops on Ann Street and then Hanover Street. This piece is marked with one of his maker's marks and is also engraved "RP" in period script. The style is transitional between pointed-end, coffin-end and fiddle, and such pieces were made only for a brief time. This spoon measures about 5 1/8 inches in length and weighs about 7 grams. Condition is fairly good, with the bowl slightly dinged and out of round, but no splits or repairs. A nice early spoon!
