SOLD

Offered is a very nice late 18th Century American coin silver pictureback teaspoon by noted Philadelphia silversmith Abraham Dubois, circa 1785-95. This piece is engraved with a period block letter monogram of SY, and has a good strike of Abraham Dubois' full-name maker's mark. The back of the bowl has a die-struck decoration of a bird grasping an olive-branch, which is quite worn, perhaps 80 percent gone. Nonetheless, it adds a bit to this piece. This spoon measures about 6 1/8 inches in length and weighs about 16 grams. Condition is very good overall, with the noted wear to the birdback decoration and modest signs of normal use, but no dents, splits or repairs. All in all a nice example by an uncommon and well-respected silversmith!
