Cliff Nunn - Antique Silver and Decorative Arts
Rare Pair of Washington, DC Teaspoons w/Unrecorded Masi & Co. Mark
SOLD
Offered is a very rare pair of Southern coin silver teaspoons by Masi & Co., each bearing a period engraved script "CV" monogram, and each with an unrecorded early MASI&CO mark in a rectangular punch. The mark on these spoons is different from the later F. Masi & Co., mark for Frank Masi & Co., and possibly dates to his first partnership with his sons Vincent and Seraphim, circa 1825-26. The mark on these spoons will likely be used in an upcoming book on DC silversmiths. These spoons measure about 5 1/2 inches in length and weigh about 29 grams. Condition is very good overall, with minor bumping of the bowls but no major dents and no splits or repairs. All in all a fine and rare pair!
