Silverplate on Copper Pedestal Tray Compote
A vintage silver plated on copper pedestal serving tray, the shallow bowl is lavishly decorated with - what I can only describe as a fleur-de-lis type coat of arms or seal - an exuberance of art-deco patterns within patterns. I have not been able to find much about this piece's, manufacturer, use, or pattern. It seems to be ideally suited for holiday decorated as a center piece or in a buffet with a wonderful spinach-bread bowl on it. Copper based silverplated hollowwares are by nature sturdier and lend
themselves to use rather than show, hence were found only in good-quality pieces that
were more costly to produce and to buy in their day. The compote/platter is 4 1/2"
(11.4cm) tall, with an 11 1/2" (29.2cm) diameter top, an 4 3/4" (12.1cm) diameter
base, and weighs 15.6oz (442gr). This is a beautiful tray. there are no dings or dents
or scratches underneath it seems like the design from inside is showing through the
metal or it was intentionally designed this way. It is only visible when you turn it over. Still a wonderful, usable, displayable piece.
