Sales Policy
Quality. We are committed to offering quality
collectibles to our e-commerce customers.
When we describe an item up for sale,
we will use terms like “signs of use” and “damaged”
with a certain meaning.

In times past, quality control in the manufacturing
process was not what it is now. It’s well known that
old mason jars often contain air bubbles in the glass,
and this is part of their charm. The same is true
of any other glass, pottery, cast iron or old-time
product. Therefore we do not consider small,
ordinary defects in manufacture that do not affect
the functionality of the product to be “damage.”

The same is true of “signs of use.” Crazing in
stoneware, chopping marks in a wooden bowl, a little
rust or lime on the lid or wire bail of a mason
jar – these kinds of marks show that an item was
used and loved as part of the household. We do not
consider them damage either.

Abuse is another thing. Chips in glass, cracks in
wood, pitting in cast iron, extensive rust or lime
deposits on any item: this is damage. We will not
ordinarily offer damaged items for sale, and certainly
not without noting the nature and extent of the
damage in the description of the item.

Total Cost. The listed cost of the item plus the
estimated cost of shipping is due prior to shipment
by us.

Shipping Cost. We will ship via United Parcel Service
or the United States Postal Service. You decide what
level of service you want: ground, next day air,
express, parcel post or any other generally available
option. We will estimate the shipping cost at the
UPS or USPS web site and add that to the cost of the
item. If the estimate is too low, we will make up
the difference; if it is too high, we are willing to
refund the difference to you.

Insurance and Replacement. The shipment will be
insured for the purchase price of the item. Many
items can be replaced if damaged in shipment. Please
comply with the shipper’s reporting requirements in
the event this happens, and then contact us about
availability and arrangements for a replacement.

Manner of Payment. We currently accept payment by
money order or check, but we are willing to use PayPal
if our customers prefer. Make your check or M.O. out
to The Retro-Kitchen.

Time of Shipment. We will ship one business day
after receipt of payment by money order, and 10 calendar
days after deposit of payment by check. Check
deposits will take place within one business day
after receipt.
