THIS VINTAGE CAR BOOK IS A CLASSIC EARLY WORK BY FAMOUS AUTHOR, KEN PURDY. It is KINGS OF THE ROAD, about those fabulous automobiles that flourished in USA and Europe before development of the monotonous cars of today. To name a few: Mercer, Duesenberg, Cord, Auburn, Stanley, Bugatti, Alfa-Romeo, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Mercedes, MG, Stutz, Marmon, Hispanno-Suiza, Isotta-Fraschini, Morgan. Find out their histories, their features, strengths, weaknesses, peculiarities, accomplishments. A book review in the July, 1987 Road and Track says that Purdy was a magical writer and this was his masterpiece. He knew the reason cars were fascinating. This book became the bible for a whole generation of postwar Americans whose horizons Purdy expanded. Rick Busenkell who did the review says he believes this is the most influential automotive book ever written. Also there are several chapters about "one of a kind" cars built since 1900. This is not a picture book as there are only a couple, but rather all information. There are 246 pages and publishing date was 1952. CONDITION of the book is very good. Dust cover has some wear on the back and a couple of pieces of tape as well as a couple of tiny tears and a bit of wear on the front.
