Granted, this is not the rarest piece of Tiffany flatware you'll encounter while surfing the interwebz, but several features do make it stand out from the crowd: 1) the overall color, condition and lack of polishing wear 2) the exceptionally well executed and decorative Art Nouveau monogram (see third photo) which I can not decipher, and 3) the eminently reasonable price tag.

each square face 15 X 15 millimeters, or if you'd prefer 9/16 X 9/16 inches, weight .46 oz. Troy or 14.3 grams or if you're old school 9.2 dwt. Marked on reverse 18k and L in diamond as shown in second enlargement.

These are quite stylish and in wonderful condition. The posts are marked only 14k, which I suppose means they'd run out of 18k backs on the day that they were assembled, and made due with what was on hand.

spoons, London 1842, length four inches, weight a rather stunning .92 Troy ounces each, maker SC, untouched original condition, no monogram. The reverse of bowl with a lion's face cast in high relief, the tail entwining handle and terminating in a cast and chased paw with superb detail.

I do not recall ever having seen a finer pair of master salt spoons.

Porter was a highly talented silversmith, but his work is inconsistent and sometimes sloppy. These items showcase his skills at their best. The solder joints are subtle and superbly executed, the hammering is uniform and attractive, the piercings are symmetrical.

As one might expect from a company which prided itself on hand craftsmanship, similar examples of the same brooch with slightly different configurations of these five conjoined panels do exist. This model would appear to be scarce.
