length 12 1/2 inches, weight 6.0 Troy ounces, monogrammed "J.E.L." in period script with flourishes, marked A.L. Coan Mobile" in serrated rectangle.

The bowl has a few more scratches than we'd like to see, and a small dip at the edge which we show in excruciating detail (see third photo), but all in all a pleasant and substantial item which presents itself quite well.

Louisville circa 1850, height 3 3/4; top diameter 3 1/8; bottom diameter 2 1/2 inches, satisfyingly hefty at 5.94 oz. Troy, a few very minor dings but fine overall condition.

One or two mouse clicks in a Google search window will find you any number of similar examples which are lighter, shorter, fatigued and pricier. For example, lot 159 in Case's January 2016 sale (which weighed a full thirty-three percent less, at 4 oz. Troy) fetched 1240.00).

marked with the F.M. monarch - lion - D pseudos commonly associated with Savannah, length 13 1/4 inches, weight 8.7 oz Troy, monogrammed "S S T" (obverse) as shown.

There is a minor, shallow scratch extending downwards from nick on rim of bowl, and a flattened out spot on reverse cartouche where someone buffed out a scratch, long ago. Both are subtle and don't "jump out" at the eye-- overall this piece presents itself extremely well. It is grand in weight and scale.
