This pattern gets much less love than its close relatives Iris and New Art, but is every bit as finely detailed and well executed as either one of those.

What's all the brouhaha about this fine old Durgin pattern? Well at the moment, the short answer is: none whatsoever. Twenty years ago, collectors for New Art abounded. Today there are few, giving you, dear reader, the chance to obtain examples at an attractive price point...

Philadelphia circa 1867, length nine inches, weight 4.06 Troy ounces, excellent condition, with massive realistically cast claw ends; bright cut and engine turned decoration, monogrammed "m".

We've owned many similar tongs over the years, but these are distinguished by the cross hatched detail inside the grasping area, which is both pleasing to the eye and practical for levitating your ice cubes.

There are some condition issues. One (on left in photo) has some dents in the side panels; the bobeche on the other is a bit wavy. Also, though they bear the same model number, one is decorated with beading and the other with "rope."

Keep in mind that when your table is lit with candle light, the guests will simply say "what lovely pair of candlesticks!"

broad upturned Fiddle with chamfered pointed shoulders and a large, rounded drop, length thirteen inches, weight 7.1 Troy ounces, a few very minor dents in bowl but fine overall condition, marked and monogrammed as shown in enlargements.

McCalla suffered from an unspecified chronic illness (look up his obituary on findagrave; ID number 17903326) and died at the age of 55. Items bearing his mark are scarce.

with oak leaves and acorns, height and diameter both approximately 1 3/4 inches, weight 1.8 oz Troy, fine condition, marked only "S 620" but according to a Very knowledgeable fellow, the work of Wood and Hughes.

Over the years, we've bought and sold many King and King's variant items in coin silver, but this is a particularly fine example in terms of form, quality, and condition.

Years ago, many folks had high enthusiasm over silver from the Golden State, but now we're going to find out the hard way whether or not anyone indeed still gives a rat's derrière.

length 12 inches, weight 3.16 Troy ounces, fine condition with minor scratches on reverse of blade as seen in second enlargement. There is some slight evidence of an erasure, but if so it has been done properly and even the best trained pair of eyes may not be able to detect this.
