Albany circa 1790, rounded end with short back midrib and raised incised drop, monogrammed "P over L G" in period shaded block lettering, typical bright-cut and wriggle-work engraving, length 9 1/8 inches, weight 2.09 oz Troy.

There is a pinprick dent, visible mostly from the reverse, which we show in excruciating detail (see third enlargement); also an engraved inventory number, but aside from these issues the condition is very good.

broad upturned Fiddle with chamfered pointed shoulders and a large, rounded drop, length thirteen inches, weight 7.1 Troy ounces, a few very minor dents in bowl but fine overall condition, marked and monogrammed as shown in enlargements.

McCalla suffered from an unspecified chronic illness (look up his obituary on findagrave; ID number 17903326) and died at the age of 55. Items bearing his mark are scarce.

Providence circa 1790, downturned pointed end with slashed drop, length 8 3/4 inches, weight 1.84 oz. Troy, marked and monogrammed as shown in enlargements.

There are some faint lines in the bowl (see fourth photo), probably where a few dents were rolled out, but the overall condition of this spoon is exceptional, with little or no tip wear, a well-struck mark, and excellent weight.

Boston circa 1800, length 5 1/4 inches, weight .47 oz Troy, excellent condition, period script mono "MH", marked as shown in 3rd enlargement.

While it may be difficult to work up too much excitement over a mustard ladle, this one is especially long and well-constructed, with a shaft that chamfers as it meets the perfectly hemispherical bowl, and an ever so stylish gently tip't drop.

There is a bit of wear where they meet the plate, some of which encroaches upon the engraving. Finding a set of twelve coin silver dessert spoons in any pattern is rare, but I'm hard pressed to think of the last time we had the privilege to offer a group of this quality (note the "flat" at the tip of each spoon) and decorative appeal...

Whitingham circa 1800, length 5 5/8 inches, total Troy weight .79 oz., very good condition, period script mono (obverse) and a slightly later one (reverse), marked as shown in third enlargement.

Notable as birthplace of Brigham Young, the town was a mere thirty years old when these spoons were made. We marvel a bit that such a small, rural spot could support its own silversmith, and can't help but suspect that he dabbled in other trades.
