Head of Satyr replica.
It is mounted on a black wooden base.
It is 10 5/8" tall from the bottom of the base to the top of the sculpture.
I believe it is made of plaster..
There is part of a card attached to the back from some institute of arts. The card states "Here is a fine representation of the satyr as the ancient Greeks imagined him-with shaggy hair, flat nose and mischievous expression. Satyrs were followers of Bacchus, the god of wine.
This sculpture is remarkable for its realism and for the goat-like textural quality of the hair. It is a light brown color, mounted on a black base.. It was found at Porto d Anzio, Italy, and is believed to have been part of a full length figure."
There are some small chips on the right ear, top of head and tiny chips on the tongue and nose. The left ear and side of head has some scraping and some chips.
The base has some dings.
