An outstanding example of a carbon film of a fern from the Paleozoic Era, Carboniferous / Pennsylvanian Period. Very rarely organisms containing a high content of carbon (i.e. plants) are subjected to extreme pressure and heat. These conditions force all gas and liquid from the organism leaving a thin film of carbon residue, forming a silhouette of the original organism. Overall size measures 3.5 inches by 3.5 inches.
