This painting, and several others which we have listed, is by 20th century amateur artist, David Hilbrand (1905-2002) who lived to be 97, painting to the end. He was a prolific painter, and many of his works were quite well done. In a very loose style, David has captured some interesting scenes in these several paintings. Gouache and Watercolor on beautifully textured Rice Paper, signed, lower right "Stockstill" for "Joan Stockstill McIntyre," Plano, Texas, as noted on old business card on back of painting. A young boy is on his way to the fishing hole carrying fishing pole and bucket. Lovely grass and floral foreground; sky is more blue and grass more green than in photos. Original oil painting appears to be old (canvas older than the frame), but is unsigned, and no other information is available on the painting. It appears to be perhaps a servant and "child of the manor" conversing at a well; with tile flooring, grotesque mask on wall from which water flows; the servant is carrying what appears to be a spool of yarn.
