Handpainted porcelain box with gilding, brass mounts. Painting on lid is of a ship sailing near a monument; front painting is of roses and leaves. Gilded leaves on inside. Marked on the base, blue overglaze with a mark that resembles Sevres, although we do not believe it to be Sevres. Still, it is a lovely handpainted box, measuring 3-3/8" x 2" x 1-1/2" tall. What a neat item ... can be used as a laptop desk, or as a jewelry box, primarily a man's box. The lid is actually a roll-top just like the old roll-top desks, opening to reveal a burgundy-lined compartment on the right with tray which could be used for jewelry or pens and pencils. Compartment on the left can hold any type of jewelry items, or bottles of ink. Good size at 14" wide, 13-1/4" front-to-back, and 4-3/4" tall.
