French Plate from 1920s, one of what was surely a series of 12 transfer print, calendar plates, this one "Juin," for the month of June. Looks like the sport of thoroughbred racing was a popular in June, in France. This is from a very old French manufacturer, and is, itself, 20th Century, 1920s, the nearest we can determine. Masterfully handpainted blossoms against white ground, artfully gilded through pattern and rim, square plate with underglaze whiteware green mark of Charles Field Haviland/Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel, date of 1882-1890, and blue overglaze mark of Charles Field Haviland, Limoges, 1859-1881. Although this is not artist signed, we attribute it to the artist, "MC" who painted our items no. 1221 and 1220. 7" square. Some rubbing to gilding.
