Please see our "About Us" page for free details. In the 1950s, there was a trend for famous artists and housewares designers to create signed modernist items in glass and ceramics (and certainly other decorative items). They are now referred to as the "Designed and Signed" collectibles and many are shown in the book of the same name. Some of the other designers of the era were Sasha Brastoff (or Sasha B.), Georges Briard, Mark Bellaire, and several others. This particular piece is by the Gay Fad Studios, in Ohio, and it is signed, in gold, in the lower right. The modernist tree pattern is typical of the types of designs of those days; and of course the gilding was essential. Our Gay Fad bowl measures 7-1/2" diameter, and 1-1/8" deep. It is in very good condition, but is missing some of the gilding, particularly in the center, probably from poor storage. c. 1950s.
