A pair of William Gale & Son Sterling Silver Dessert Forks, 7 and !/8 inches long, in a pattern I have not been able to identify but one that might be called "Tipt Bead." Tines somewhat worn. Engraved "M.J.S." in Gothic on the front. Marked with a "2" [probably a journeyman's or quality mark], "W GALE & SON" & "925 STERLING" on the middle of the reverse of the handle. Circa 1850-1859 [see Rainwater U Redfield, 4th Ed. at p. 118. Some of the photos are poor in color...

Magnificent coin silver soup ladle in the "Bead" pattern, probably manufactured by John Pohlamus, retailed by Ball Black & co. c. 1851-76. I would date this from 1851-1860, certainly not after 1970. Engraved "C.A.W." in gothic on the reverse of the handle end. Marked "BALL BLACK & CO" incuse on back in middle of handle.

Seven Sterling teaspoons in the Ivy pattern by Henry Hibbard. Whiting Manufacturing Co. began producing them in 1874. Marked "Pat 1866" incuse, "STERLING" incuse, and "H. RICHARDSON & CO" incuse (retailer, loc. unk.). Engraved on the front with a Gothic "R."

Four coin silver teaspoons in the "Tuscan" pattern by William Gale of Gale and Hayden, NYC c. 1846-1850 and sold by J. F. Jones of Syracuse c. 1850. Marked "J. F. Jones" incuse and "PATENT 1846" in rectangle on reverse. Engraved "Ella A." in script on the front and "Bank---" on the reverse. Bowls are in good condition but running your fingernail over them reveals the beginning of the silver turning back, something that is bearly noticeable just by looking. A nice set.

Coin silver gravy ladle in the "Bead" pattern, 6 inches long, probably made by John Pohlemus of NYC and sold by Crosby, Hunnewell & Morse, 1861/2 - 1863, Boston, Massachusetts. Engraved "EM" on the reverse in Gothic. Marked "CROSBY, HUNNEWELL & MORSE" and "PURE COIN" incuse on the reverse of the handle. Excellent condition.

Heavy coin silver sugar shell in a beautiful pattern I have not been able to identify by Newell Harding Co., Boston, c. 1851-1870. 6 3/4 inches long, modified shell bowl. Engraved "Sarah" in script on the reverse. Marks COIN and N HARDING CO. incuse. A good, heavy piece. Like new. While this is probably a sugar shell it just as easily could be used (and may have been used) as a preserve spoon since its shape is somewhat like later preserve spoons.

Unmarked coin silver mustard ladle in the "Jenny Lind" pattern, probably by Albert Coles of NYC. c. 1851-75. 5 1/4 inches long. Engraved with a Gothic "F" on the front.

Coin silver mustard spoon in the "Medallion" pattern by Hotchkiss & Schreuder, Syracuse, NY, ca. 1967. Medalliion of the young Dionysus. In very good condition but the medallion is not as crisp as on my other H & S medallion pieces, indicating significant use. Shell bowl with no gilding. 5 and 7/16 inches long. No engraving. Marked incuse "H & S" and "COIN." Also marked "A C WORTLEY" incuse for the retailer of unknown location.

"Medallion" Sterling Dessert Fork 6 and 5/8 inches long by Hotchkiss & Schreuder of Syracuse, NY. Excellent condition. Medallion of the young Dionysus on the handle. Engraved on the back with a faint "JC" or "H" in script. Marked incuse "H & S", "STERLING", and MERMOD JACCARD & CO. Mermod Jaccard & Co. were jewelers in St. Louis, Missouri from c. 1845 to 1883.

Gorham garvy or sauce ladle in the "Josephine" pattern, patented 1855. Marked incuse with PATENT 1855 and COIN. Mono "ACH" in Copperplate. Bowl has been very slightly bent on the right but has been straightened. This does not detract from usefulness or appearance, but does result in a lower price.
