Magnificent coin or sterling silver Medallion soup ladle with cartouche of the young Dionysus, manufactured by Hotchkiss & Schreuder of Syracuse, NY about 1867. See Soeffing, Silver Medallion Flatware pp. 58-59. Retailed by Chapin, loc. unk. Pristine condition with some residual gilding on front shoulders.

Magnificent coin silver soup ladle in the "Bead" pattern, probably manufactured by John Pohlamus, retailed by Ball Black & co. c. 1851-76. I would date this from 1851-1860, certainly not after 1970. Engraved "C.A.W." in gothic on the reverse of the handle end. Marked "BALL BLACK & CO" incuse on back in middle of handle.

Magnificent Sterling soup ladle in the "Italian" pattern by William Gale & Son, NYC. Patented in 1860. Possibly manufactured as late as 1870. Incuse marks of W Gale & Son, 925 Sterling, and Patented 1860. Incuse mark "1" on reverse of shoulder. Monogramed with gothic "G." Perfect except for some minor scuffing on the left side of the bowl on the outside (see photo).

Beautiful preserve spoon in the Medallion pattern by Hotchkiss & Schreuder, Syracuse, NY. CA 1870. They first produced this Medallion pattern in about 1867. This piece is marked "STERLING" so is probably after 1870. In excellent condition with significant gilding remaining on the bowl. The medallion of the young Dionysus is sharp. Marked H & S, STERLING, and M & D ROSENBERG for the unknown retailer. No engraving. 6 and 11/16 inches long.

2 heavy coin silver serving spoons about 8 1/2 inches long in a modified Kings pattern with scallop shell concave on front and convex on reverse of handle, shell drop. L. Veron & co, Philadelphia, ca. 1828-1841. One is in very good condition, the other has a bowl with a slight deformity and the handle has been slightly bent. Marked "L.VERON. & Co." in rectangle. Engraved "R" in script on the front of the handle. The engraving is faint on the best one and barely visible on the lesser one.

Coin silver crumber by Samuel T. Crosby of Boston, Mass. c. 1849-50 in the Fiddle Thread pattern. Engraved "ARM" in Old English on the handle. Baroque etching on the blade with no monogram in the cartouche. Excellent condition with one questionable ding toward the end of the blade that does not show on the back and is barely discernable.

Coin silver soup ladle 12 and 5/8 inches long. Manufactured c. 1841-47 by Cunningham, Gilbert & Co. or F. W. Cooper in NYC as the Bust/Lion/C manufacturer's mark is attributed to those firms by McGrew in Manufacturer's Marks on American Coin Silver, pp. 10 & 58. Apparently retailed by Samuel W. Benedict of NYC. "BENEDICT" incuse appears together with the Bust/Lion/C. In Belden at p. 56 the mark "BENEDICT. 5 WALL STREET" incuse appears with the Bust/Lion/C and is attributed to Samuel W...

A very nice coin silver berry spoon with twisted and engraved handle. The bowl still retains some of the gold wash. No intials engraved. Marked with a right facing eagle in oval with H H & B below in lozenge. This is the mark for Hall, Hewson & Brewer of Albany, New York, ca. 1846-52. A very nice pre-Civil War berry spoon, entirely useable today.

Heavy silver sugar tongs, 6 and 3/8 inches long by John and James Cox of NYC, working 1817-53. Because of their weight and style I would place them at 1850-3. They have a patented design I have not been able to identify, which is similar to the "Empire" design of John Polhamus of NYC. Marked "J & I COX N.Y. PATEN" in a rectangle on one interior side and with what appears to be an English design registration mark in a diamond design on the other...

Large coin silver sugar tongs, 6 and 5/16 inches long, by Samuel L. Brown of New York, NY, ca. 1820-50. Marked "S. BROWN" in a serrated rectangle on the interior of both handles. Engraved "HCH" in copperplate script on the exterior end and "S.R.H." in modern block letters on the interior end. A nice pair of tongs, large enough to use for ice cubes today.

Unmarked coin silver gravy ladle in the "Jenny Lind" pattern. 6 inches long. Probably by Albert Coles of NYC. Ca. 1855-78. P. T. Barnum introduced the American public to Jenny Lind, "the Swedish nightengale." She was a nationwide smash as a singer, despite some criticism of her talent. Engraved "Sue Greenfield" in copperplate script. Thus a silver pattern named after her. Bowl is perfect. Some wear on the drop. Otherwise like new...

Gorham garvy or sauce ladle in the "Josephine" pattern, patented 1855. Marked incuse with PATENT 1855 and COIN. Mono "ACH" in Copperplate. Bowl has been very slightly bent on the right but has been straightened. This does not detract from usefulness or appearance, but does result in a lower price.
