Sterling Silver Sugar Bowl and Creamer, Schofield Co.
Sterling silver sugar bowl with lid and creamer by Schofield Co. of Baltimore, MD. In the Neo-Classic style. Sugar Bowl is about 7 and 1/8 inches high to top of the finial and 6 and 3/4 inches wide from handle to handle. Creamer is about 6 1/4 inches to top of handle. Engraving is hard to decipher but appears to be "HAC." In excellent condition. Schofield Co. was founded in 1903 as the Baltimore Silversmiths Mfg. Co., changed its name to Heer-Schofield Co. from 1905-28 and then to Schofield Co. in 1930. A few years later it incorporated as Schofield Co., Inc. and was operated under that name by Frank Schofield's widow from 1948 to 1965. It was acquired by Stieff Co. in 1967. This set is very well made and could have been made anytime between 1930 and 1967. Marked "SCHOFIELD CO." incuse, H gothic in a diamond, Lion, S gothic in a diamond, and "STERLING 925/1000 FINE" incuse, "1800" incuse. The form is strikingly beautiful and the "1800" is probably the pattern name.
