S. Wilmot teaspoon, Charleston or Savannah
Coin silver teaspoon marked "S WILMOT" in rectangle. Fiddle thread pattern. This is either the mark of Samuel Wilmot of New Haven, CT, Georgetown, SC (1824-37) and Charleston, SC (1838-41) or of Samuel Wimot of Savannah, GA c. 1850-56. It could be either. It looks very mcuh like the mark attributed by Belden to the Charleston Wilmot. Probably made in NYC and sold in SC or GA. Most fiddle thread of this period was made in NYC and then sent throughout the country. S. Wilmot of Ga. may have been the son of S. Wilmot of Ct. and SC. Engraved "P" in copperplate script. Like new condition. A great piece of ante-bellum Southern silver.
