Rare Etching hors-texte Nude Female by Aristde Maillol

Important original hors-texte nude female etching by French artist Aristde Maillol from the  book Livet de Folastries limited to 230 editions. This is one etching from the original book by Author Pierre de Ronsard illustrated by artist Aristde Maillol, Published in Paris by by French art dealer/publisher Ambroise Vollard in 1938. Provenance: label from the Ferdinand Roten Galleries in Baltimore MD. Other publications can be found with lithographs and woodcuts by this artist but this piece is from the only book ever published with genuine etchings by Maillol. This is a full page sheet from the book measuring 9.5" x7.5" 24cm X 19cm, it has a horizontal fold upper quadrant with tape remnants. Over all condition is good, with only slight toning. From a total edition of 230 copies, Note: the individual etchings are not signed in this or in any other known copy. Although Maillol illustrated several books with lithographs and woodcuts, this is the only one he did with etchings and, in fact, it contains almost the entirety of his work in this medium. One of Vollard's last great books: the great publisher died before the book was completed. According to Strachan, one of Vollard's "finest masterpieces."
