Vintage FOREST SERVICE brass Abney Level

Vintage FOREST SERVICE brass Abney Level made by The A. Lietz Co San Francisco USA. This piece measures 6.5" long. Acquired from an elderly gentleman who told us his father worked in the timber business so judging from his age this would likely be estimated to be about 75 years old if not older. This piece has two reversible arcs one PERCENT of grade arc is graduated in degrees from 0° to 150° in both directions, and the other a graduated TOPOGRAPHIC arc. Clearly stamp marked FOREST SERVICE on the side. Level bubble intact and working. Being made of solid brass the black lacquer could be stripped and the level polished if desired
