In 1978 Kenner introduced "Darci" and friends in order to compete with Barbie. In their attempt to set her apart, Kenner opted to make Darci different - she was 12 1/2" tall with a fully poseable body and 3 distinct hair colors. She was marketed as a real "cover girl", complete with several designer outfits, a fashion studio, and her own line of perfume.
