This beautiful footed bowl (or compote) was made by Joseph Holdcroft. Holdcroft was best known for the majolica pieces he created in England between 1870 and 1885. This piece is from the "pond lily" line. As the name would indicate, the bowl is formed from a number of overlapping lily pads. There are 4 flower blossoms within the bowl. Two are fully opened. They are a combination of white and cornflower blue in color - one shows it's yellow center. The other two flowers are b ...click for details

This amazing pitcher is classified as majolica. Majolica is made of heavy earthenware. It is design-molded and typically adorned with beautiful vivid coloring. The most desirable pieces of majolica are often whimsical in motif, as is the case here. I have done extensive research to try to find more out about this pitcher. The only reference I can find is (of the 7" version of the identical pitcher)in The Collector's Encyclopedia of Majolica by Mariann Katz-Marks. Here it is identi ...click for details

This beautiful plate is in the "blackberry and basketweave" pattern. As the pattern name would indicate, the plate has a basketweave background. While this pattern is most commonly found with a white background, this one is brown. The basketweave pattern sits around a 3 3/4" vibrant yellow center. The center has bumps similar to an orange peel. On top of that sits a stem of blackberries, pink flowers and green leaves. The back of the plate is also quite nice - it is very si ...click for details

This beautiful majolica plate/tray is in the shape of a begonia leaf. These leaf shaped plates were actually intended to serve as pickle dishes. While they came in a variety of colors, the turquoise background makes this variation unusual. It is also unusual for its size - it measures 12" to the tip of the leaf, and is 8.5" wide. There are no chips or breaks on this plate. It does have a stress crack that happened during the manufacturing process. This crack is in the middle on t ...click for details

We have 2 of these beautiful majolica plates. They were made by Wedgewood. They are in the shape of a cabbage leaf with a basketweave background showing through at the edges. They measure about 8" in diameter each. Both are marked "Wedgewood" on the bottom. One has the letter "O" only. The other appears to have two letters, "O" and I think "G". I believe this dates the plates to 1810-1820! One plate has 4 tiny flea bites at the edge (the bigg ...click for details

This beautiful majolica comport was made by Minton. The registration mark on the base dates it to 1860! The outer band is about 1 1/2", and sort of resembles a wicker basket pattern. This pattern is also repeated on the flared foot. There is also a pattern of what I would describe as "wedges" on the inside of the bowl. It is a deep green in color. This comport measures 9 1/4" in diameter, 2 1/8" high and is 7/8" deep. It is marked on the bottom. It says &quo ...click for details
