Choisy le Roi French Majolica Rabbit Plate
This is a beautiful majolica plate with a rabbit design. It was manufactured in France by Choisy Le Roi. There were actually 6 different plate designs manufactured. Most were made for Higgins & Seiter of New York. The design was patented in 1900. This particular plate has 2 rabbits. They appear to be running. The closer one has his ears down against his back. The other rabbit has his ears more upright and is looking back. They appear to be in a field or garden. The plate has 6 flat edges but is scalloped in between. It measures about 8.5" across the flats. There are no chips or cracks, but there is crazing consistent with the age, as you can see in the the photos. It is marked and stamped with the number 19.
