This beautiful majolica comport was made by Minton. The registration mark on the base dates it to 1860! The outer band is about 1 1/2", and sort of resembles a wicker basket pattern. This pattern is also repeated on the flared foot. There is also a pattern of what I would describe as "wedges" on the inside of the bowl. It is a deep green in color. This comport measures 9 1/4" in diameter, 2 1/8" high and is 7/8" deep. It is marked on the bottom. It says "Minton", along with 3 shapes (above Minton) that I cannot decipher but are apparently Minton's way of dating a piece. The registration mark has an "IV" at the top which identifies the material. At the bottom is a letter "Z" which dates it to 1860. At the left corner is the letter "H" and on the right I believe is a "12" which represents April 12th. So this piece was made on April 12, 1860. It does have 1 tiny flake on the edge - 1/4" by 1/8". There are also some utensil marks on the bottom, but otherwise it is in excellent condition - not bad for nearly 150 years old!!!
