Fenton Limited Edition Sculptured Rose Quartz Vase
This striking vase was designed by master sandcarver Michael Yates of the Fenton Glass Company. It is a limited edition - number 108 of 850. It is part of the Connoisseur Collection that Fenton introduced in 1983. The Connoisseur Collection strived for the unique - such as cased glass, iridized glass, and sandcarving. The company's intent was to develop more "collectible" items, thus relatively few items were made in this line. Connoisseur Collection pieces were typically offered as numbered, limited editions. However, the quantity of items actually made was often far less than the limit, as the items in this line were often difficult to produce. This vase is called "Sculptured Rose Quartz" number 7661 LJ Lady Vase and is listed among the best sellers from the line. It was one of the first pieces introduced in 1983 in the Connoisseur collection. The Sculptured Rose Quartz pieces were sandcarved, which was a new treatment for Fenton. With this technique, the sculptor carved away the rose in layers to produce the shading and tones in each design. Sculptured Rose Quartz is described as being blue-gray on the inside and a rose color on the surface. This particular piece was recognized by the Society of Glass and Ceramic Decorators as the winner of its 1983 Discovery Award.
The vase measures 8 1/2" tall, 5 1/2" at its widest, and has a 4" diameter at the opening. It is in excellent condition with no damage of any kind. It is marked (see photo).
