Spode Game Bird Covered Vegetable Dish
SOLD
This beautiful covered dish was made by Spode, England. It is in the Game Bird pattern. The lid depicts 2 game birds - a Grey Phalaropa and a Goosander. The center of the bowl (in the bottom) shows a Garganey. On both the bowl and the lid, the game girds are surrounded by a 2 1/4" wide pattern of leaves and flowers as well as a scalloped edge. All patterns are brown transfers. The bowl measures 11" by 9" and is 2 1/2" tall without the lid, 6" with the lid (to top of finial). The bowl has 4 feet. It is in excellent condition. There is a tiny (1/8") chip on the side of the finial. I'm not sure how you could chip it there, so my guess is that it's a manufacturer's bubble pop (as it is circular). It is marked (see photo). The mark includes the name of the game bird depicted in the bowl - the birds in the lid are named inside the lid.
