Vernon Kilns Coral Reef Sauce Boat - Don Blanding
$95.00
This sauce boat was created by Vernon Kilns. It was designed by Don Blanding. Artists such as Don Blanding, and Walt Disney were hired by Vernon Kilns in order to capitalize on a unique production method of underglaze printing which was revolutionized by Vernon Kilns in the 1930's. This printing method involved photographically acid etching a design on bisque before the glaze was applied. Because the designs were acid etched instead of hand etched, the patterns were reproduced exactly as the artists created them in their studios.
Blanding began designing for Vernon Kilns in 1938. His designs were inspired by the tropics, and he eventually created four basic tropical designs, two floral and two with fish. The design colors were varied to create different pattern names - a total of ten patterns in all were created. This highly desirable pattern is called Coral Reef. It is maroon in color, and absolutely beautiful. It depicts 4 angel fish (2 per side)surrounded by coral. It is in mint condition, with no damage or crazing of any kind. It is marked with the distinctive "Aloha, Don Blanding" mark/signature. It measures 6 3/4" across handle and spout, by 5" and is 2 3/4" tall.
