Thomas Marktredwitz Sevres 4 Piece Tea Set - Violets
This beautiful tea set was made by Thomas Marktredwitz some time between 1905 and 1908. To give you a bit of history on the company I am citing a web source called porcelainmarksandmore.com "In 1898 the first porcelain factory opened in the town of Marktredwitz and was known under the name of 'Porzellanfabrik Jaeger, Thomas & Co.' In 1903, Thomas decided to leave his partners and open his own factory. Based on the ideas Thomas introduced, success was nearly instantaneous for the new company. Partner Ens left the company in 1907, which allowed Rosenthal to become the major shareholder." The teapot, creamer and sugar all contain the 2nd mark, which dates it to 1905 - 1908. The mark also contains the name "Sevres", which I believe to be the name of the pattern. It includes lovely hand painted purple violets on a creamy green background. There are also highlights of orangish brown included in the pattern. Each piece is trimed in hand painted gold. The tray is marked with a green "Haviland, France" mark. I assume that a previous owner of the tea set added the tray since the color and pattern match the rest of the set perfectly. All 3 Thomas Marktredwitz pieces are in excellent condition with no damage of any kind. I'm not sure this set was ever used, as even the gold trim is in mint condition. The Haviland tray does have a nick out of the underside (see photo). Please e-mail if you would like sizes, or additional photos.
