This beautiful gravy or sauce was manufactured by Spode. The pattern is called "Chelsea Bird" and is red in color. It is characterized by the official spode website as a "dishevelled bird standing on a rock". Chelsea Bird was apparently produced from 1884-1972 under a variety of names and pattern numbers. Some of the names include: Blackbird, Pink Bird and Rock Bird. The different versions of the pattern had different pattern numbers often indicating a different shape (blank) or a different finish. See photos for the marks and numbers included on this piece. This gravy has an attached underplate. Both the gravy and the underplate have scalloped edges. It measures 9.25" long by 5.25" wide and stands 5.25" high at the highest point. It is in excellent condition with no damage of any kind. The colors are very well preserved. See our home page for other Spode Chelsea Bird pieces.
