This beautiful footed bowl (or compote) was made by Joseph Holdcroft. Holdcroft was best known for the majolica pieces he created in England between 1870 and 1885. This piece is from the "pond lily" line. As the name would indicate, the bowl is formed from a number of overlapping lily pads. There are 4 flower blossoms within the bowl. Two are fully opened. They are a combination of white and cornflower blue in color - one shows it's yellow center. The other two flowers are buds. They are mostly blue in color. The footed base is also comprised of overlapping lily pads. The bowl measures 10 5/8" in diameter. The foot is 5 1/2" in diameter. The piece stands 3" high overall. It is in wonderful condition. It does show crazing (as is typical of pieces from this era), and there are a couple of spots that were missed during the glazing process. There might be a short, tight hairline, although it does not show through to the back of the bowl. There are no chips or repairs. It is marked on the base.
