Herend Rothschild Bird Round Covered Tureen
Herend has been producing outstanding porcelain pieces since 1826. Each piece is kiln fired, then carefully hand decorated by one of 750 painters employed by the company. The skilled artisans are guided only by tiny dots of graphite applied through perforated forms. With multi-colored designs, multiple firings (between color applications) are often necessary to achieve the correct colors. A single piece may take weeks to perfect. This is a covered tureen in the Rothschild Bird pattern. It measures 10.25" in diameter (without handles), and stands about 9" tall to the top of the finial. All the handles are twig forms with flower buds at their ends. It has the Herend mark (see photo) along with the mark 1016 - 22 ROM. 1016 is the number for this shape, and ROM indicates that it's the Rothschild Bird pattern in pastel colors. It appears to be in MINT condition with no damage or crazing. The gold on the edge is 100% intact, and there are no apparent utensil marks.
