Antique scales that have survived years of service. Of course these scales were based on spring technology and in many cases I am sure that accuracy was not the greatest. They relied on the accuracy of the spring which was predetermined by the tension of the spring within the spring. They were extremely well made with a ring at the top and a hook on the bottom.Usually this type of spring was used at a water driven grain mill. The spring was accommodating up to 25 pounds. The ring, hook, and encasement are made of steel with the face being made of brass. The item is fused together by six brass spot brads. Total length is 8 1/2 inches long and approx. 1 1/2 inches wide. The scale works perfectly. It is stamped on the brass plate "John Chatillon & Sons makers New York U. S. A." Collectors are fast taking this type of item off the market. Shipping is figured on the actual cost according to weight and there is no charge for packing. Insurance is available at buyers request.
