Item #072309-Nip

The is a very old piece of porcelain from Japan, circa late 1800s or early 1900s. It is a condiment jar, with attached underplate, lid and spoon. There is a relief pattern with gold applied trim. Much of the gold has worn away on the sides of the bowl and on the underplate edges, but most is visible on the lid.

This very nice, collectible piece has two issues: one is a chip in the rim of the underplate, shown in photo. The rim has a slight distortion in this area, which is a manufacturing issue. The other problem is a repair to the ball finial where it became separated from the lid. It is a good repair, and not likely to be noticed unless one is looking for it.

The piece is 4 1/4" in diameter x 3 1/2" high.

Nippon china was produced for export to the United States beginning in 1865 through 1921, when the McKinley Tariff act was enforced requiring country of origin to be marked in legible English. Nippon was the Japanese word for the country of origin, so "Japan" replaced this word on china sent to the US after 1922. Shipping includes insurance.
