Delft Holland, Oval Ash Tray w/ Gold, Dutch Shoes, Nice
Delft Holland, Oval Ash Tray with Gold Dutch shoes. The shape is basically of artist’s palette, including an indentation to represent the thumb hole which could also double as a cigarette snuffer if you smoke. Measures about 4 3/4 wide, and
6 1/8” long. This is an unusual color & pattern for Delft. I have never seen a name, or description of it, so the best I can offer is that it is turquoise and a chrome-like charcoal color, in a pattern that resembles roots and fissures in rock. I know from having a damaged piece in the past that the base clay is a whitish, somewhat soft, powder-like clay. This particular piece is trimmed in gold, even the cigarette rests. There is only a very tiny bit of wear in places to the gold trim, but otherwise, no damage of any sort, and displays very well. Marked “HAND, PAINTED, DELFT, HOLLAND”, in gold ink on bottom. This item will also be displayed for sale at Best Antique Mall, Lincoln, Mo. so please check with me regarding availability.
