Victorian Spelter Elk Vase & Holder
Victorian Spelter Elk Vase Holder & Vase. This is a really unique item. I have owned it for several years and have kept constantly looking online and elsewhere for a similar one with nothing found yet even remotely close to it. The base and tree trunk vase holder are tin and the elk is diecast metal, or spelter. The trunk and base are painted in shades of grey, black and mossy green. The elk has a darker blackish/brown back fading to tan, which then changes to shades of black and whitish/grey on his lower body. I believe the vase is actually an old auto vase. It is very heavy glass and just crystal-clear. It appears to have never been used. The vase itself measures 5 Ύ diameter at the mouth and is 10 tall. When mounted in the holder it stands about 14 ½ tall. The base measures almost 7 wide by about 5 ½ deep, and the elk stands about 7 tall. The only damage I can find is a very small chip in the glass, on one of the bottom corners of the vase. It is only about 1/8 diameter and is inside the holder so is not seen. The right antler is also bent down and towards the left one somewhat and could be straightened out with probably no ill effect, but it does not detract from appearance enough for me to attempt it. Other wise in great shape for being around 100 years old!! This item will also be on display at Lincoln Antique Mall, Lincoln Mo. so please check with me regarding availability if interested.
