Speidel Tie Clasp and Cufflinks

I always thought this set was a bit unusual and especially for Speidel. Also, wondered if there was a symbolic meaning in the design, but have never been able to find any information. The cufflinks are 1 x 3/4 inches and the tie clasp is 1 1/2 inches in length. They have been loose in a jewelry box for years, but despite that, I see no real damage, except a bit of roughness where the clip on the tie clasp is opened and closed.
