This is a large wood carving sourced fro a buyer in Indiana who found it in an old barn. We have no idea how old this piece is. It looks like it is made of walnut and has been carefully hand-painted. We're not American but we think this may be a depiction of a Revolutionary War American soldier. This could be a one of a kind folk art piece we really don't know any more about it. The soldier measures about 24 inches in height and 7 inches across.
This item was manufactured circa 1880s and is a true antique. Made from solid cast iron this wooden match holder is in very good condition. Raised eagle motif on the front. Would look great on the wall next to a fireplace or other country style room.
