VINTAGE EMERALD GREEN GLASS BEAD SNAKE NECKLACE

I purchased this unusual necklace over 30 years ago at an antique shop! The necklace intrigued me but I could never bring myself to “wear” a snake around my neck so it has been in the jewelry drawer of my dresser all these years. I still find it intriguing but it deserves to be appreciated so I am listing it for sale.

The glass beads are intricately designed. The head is larger than the other beads and it has a top and bottom – top has in-mold “eyes” and there’s a clear glass bead that I suppose represents the tongue. I surmise this necklace represents a poisonous snake because the head bead is wider at the jaw. The underneath of the head has texture like the “body” beads. The body beads taper ever so slightly to the tail bead that is elongated. The end is comprised of small round beads that form a loop – the head slides through this loop for closure.

Necklace measures 16” when looped/closed with the head bead extending through the loop – since it doesn’t fit tightly in the loop, it allows for “movement”. As I have said, this piece intrigues me and I wonder about its’ origin and prior owner(s).

Necklace is wearable but it is vintage – remember that I have owned it over 30 years! – I would recommend having it re-strung simply due to its age. If the string breaks and you lose just one bead, well, I don’t think it could be replaced.
