The medal is bronze and 1 3/8 inches in diameter. The obverse displays Winged Victory with sword and shield, standing full length and full face. On the reverse is the inscription "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION" and the United States shield with the names of the allies on either side. It is suspended from a silk ribbon 1 3/8 inches in width with a double rainbow pattern. Often referred to as "trench art" vases like this one were crafted from spent shells by soldiers or locals. This one has a stylized leaf, a bell, hearts, and fish on a stippled ground. Across the top are the dates 1914-1919. It is 13 1/2" high. A great souvenir of the "war to end all wars".
