World War I Victory Medal

The medal is bronze and 1 3/8 inches in diameter. The obverse displays Winged Victory with sword and shield, standing full length and full face. On the reverse is the inscription "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION" and the United States shield with the names of the allies on either side. It is suspended from a silk ribbon 1 3/8 inches in width with a double rainbow pattern. This medal has three battle clasps St. Mihiel, Meuse Argonne, and Defensive Sector representing campaigns in which the awardee participated. The Victory Medal was authorized by the Army in April of 1919 and awarded to any member of the military who served from April 6, 1917 to November, 1918.
