Art Deco Climax Cocktail Smoker

Designed in 1934 by W. J. Campbell this deco smoking stand/cocktail table was used in chrome and aluminum on the lounges of the 20th. century limited. The stand has it's original Climax decal and the removable tray has remnants of the same decal. The cocktail tray is removable and revolves. The ashtray has wide slots for cigars and a matchholder. The original finish shows quite a bit of wear. It is a wrinkled red overlaid with a wash of black. There is considerable corrosion to the chrome especially on the inside of the ashtray, the top of the base and the long tubes which form the column. The whole piece could be re-chromed. The stand is 26" high. You will find the stand pictured in Duncan's American Art Deco and the Brooklyn Museum's Machine Age. This piece is a true icon of the American Deco Era.
