This unusual teapot originates from the Isle of Man. It is executed in a heavy clay body and decorated with majolica glazes. The form is of a sailor sitting on a coil of rope with two legs down and a third in an amazing acrobatic feat forming the teapot spout behind him. He holds a Union Jack which forms the teapot handle. His head is removable and forms the lid. There is a chip inside the rim and damage which has been amateurishly repaired on the top of the hat. Even so this is a remarkable piece of pottery. Probably circa 1880.
