Featured for your enjoyment is an original land grant granted in 1860 by President James
Buchanan, signed for Buchanan by the Secretary of Agriculture, J.B. Seonand I believe. It was
granted for 160 acres to Mario Clarife Hebert, Widow of Valery Hebert, Lieutenant Captain
Laudry’s Company Louisiana Militia, War 1812. WOW! Land given to a fallen solder’s wife for
his service to our country. It was in Chatfield, Minnesota. This is page 42 of volume 364. For almost 150 year old document it is in wonderful condition. the seal is still intact although fades.
The document had been folded and does show these fold lines. No rips or tears. Great piece of
history!
