Appaloosa News Magazine - The Cisco Kid on the Cover
for item Mag103
As a child, I could hardly wait for Saturday mornings to arrive. I was up very early so I could watch all of my favorite programs - Hop-Along Cassidy, The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers & Dale Evans, and, last but not least, The Cisco Kid.
If the Cisco Kid was your hero, then you will absolutely love this picture of him on the cover of this vintage Appaloosa News magazine. It is dated July 1964.
The magazine is full of news about Appaloosa horses. News-Review Publishing Company in Moscow, Idaho published the magazine.
You'll find many interesting articles on Appaloosas in this issue, as well as, many interesting pictures. You?ll see Appaloosas in outer Mongolia as photographed by United States Supreme Court Justice, William O. Douglas, who spent a great deal of time in the Northwest. There is a very nice rendering of livestock exhibition building - Home of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Cartoons of Little Buttons, an Appaloosa colt, are sprinkled throughout the magazine.
Top Appaloosa breeders fill the magazine with advertisements for the horse ranches. Some of the ranches advertising include Walnut Lane Ranch of Jefferson, Texas; War Bonnett Ranches of Calhan, Colorado (see photo); Diamond Spear Ranch of Fallon, Nevada; Bomar Farms of Winchester, Kentucky; and many more.
This issue includes a picture of Joseph C Miller on his favorite horse, Ben Hur, in 1913 that was on exhibit at the Amon Carter Museum of Western Arts in Fort Worth, Texas, at the time this issue was printed.
This magazine is in excellent condition - 40+ years old. The lower right corner of the cover has a bend on it. The back cover has some grayish smudges on it. I believe it to be ink smudges from newspaper or other magazines while it was stored. The interior pages are extremely clean - no writing or dog-ears. The pages have just a hint of darkening due to age. The magazine has a slight musty smell from being stored, however, it is not unpleasant.
The picture of the Cisco Kid would look great matted and framed!
