Black Hills, South Dakota Postcard Book - Mt. Rushmore

This is a great postcard book of Black Hills, South Dakota - The Mountain Vacation Land. The lower right hand corner has "Mount Rushmore Memorial". The front also says "Chamber of Commerce, Rapid City, S.D." so maybe this was a tourist handout at the time.

Hard to believe the postage was only 1 1/2? to send a group of postcards. Note the very elegant handwriting on the address. The interior is a group of fold-out postcards of the sights in the area including the Needles Highway, Cathedral Spires, Spearfish Canyon and more. The cards are double sided - that is - pictures printed on both sides of the card.

It is amazing that the colors are still so bright and vibrant after 60 years. In the back of the booklet is a black and white fold-out with pictures of the Rapid City Army Air Base and details of life on the base.

The exterior cover has a lot of wear and has tears along the bottom folded edge. The "envelope" flap that would be used to hold the booklet closed is missing - probably torn off years ago. The nice thing is the interior fold-out cards are in excellent condition with no bends or tears even at the folds.

This would make a nice gift to someone stationed at this Army Base in the 40"s or to someone living in that area now!
